CELEBRITY singer Bamboo and 15 sports icons will spice up the Go Pilipinas Go concert rally to cheer Southeast Asian (SEA) Games-bound Filipino athletes and drum up the country’s hosting of the biennial meet at 5 p.m. Monday at SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier, Davao City.

“Aside from Bamboo, we will have surprise guests coming. We have invited sports heroes who have yet to confirm. We aim to generate local support for this campaign,” Reyes said.

PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez said that since the 30th SEA Games is fast approaching, the movement “will help drum up millions of Filipinos to pray and cheer for our athletes to perform well”.

He said the idea was suggested to them and that it was also a good thing to inspire Palarong Pambansa athletes, who are here for the annual sportsfest opening on Sunday, to become future SEA Games athletes.

June Navarro, for his part, said they are helping the Go Pilipinas Go movement conceptualize how to support Filipino athletes not just for SEA Games but for all international tournaments the Philippines is competing in.

“This will serve as the cheering squad for the national team, motivate athletes to become overall champion in the coming SEA Games that will be held in Clark, Subic, Manila and Tagaytay City,” Navarro said.

Monday’s free concert rally is free but will be on a first-come, first-served basis since the venue can only accommodate 1,500.

He added that the movement was launched on March 26 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila with over 1,000 national athletes gracing the event then it held a Go Pilipinas Go fun run for athlete in Bacolod City before making a stop in Davao City.

Cellphones and other merchandise will be raffled off during the concert.
