Gold shutout for Dabawenyos

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan -- Davao City riders salvaged two bronze medals as the Batang Pinoy 2019 National Championships cycling competition unreeled at the Sta. Monica International Race Circuit here Tuesday, August 27.

Charles Kervin Bacat checked in at nine minutes and 56 seconds in the boys nine to 11 individual time trial (ITT) to finish third behind Ruben dela Cruz Jr. (9:29) and James Aiden Ramos (9:54) of Pangasinan Province.

The second bronze came from Asia May Araneta who timed 9:54 to land third in girls 14-15 category.

Chelsea Sophia Periodico (9:04) of Sta. Rosa Laguna and Sophia Psalm Belican (9:14) of Malaybalay City clinched the gold and silver, respectively.

Meanwhile, Davao City’s boys basketball team absorbed back-to-back losses at the Palawan State University gym. The Davao dribblers bowed to Cavite, 62-85, before succumbing to Cebu City, 63-77.

Coach Nestor “Tating” Sorrosa said, “Dagko kaayo ang kalaban, duda ko sa mga edad (Our opponents were too big for us, I’m doubting their ages though).”

The Davao City girl spikers, too, suffered their second straight defeat yesterday at the hands of Batang Pinoy Mindanao champion Talaingod, 23-25, 21-25 at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex.

But the beach volleyball girls team posted its second consecutive victory by surviving past Mandaluyong, 30-28, 21-15. The feat followed Monday’s 21-15, 21-15 win over Tanauan at the Blue Palawan.
