Leysa edges Trangia via superior tiebreaks

FERDINAND Leysa bagged the Margie Narcilla Fide Rated Standard Chess Championships that ended at the Jardin del Roca Mountain Resort in Bayabas, Toril, Davao City.

Leysa tallied a total of seven points in the nine-round event to pocket the P5,000 cash prize over fellow seven-pointer Jimzon Trangia via superior tiebreaks.

Trangia settled for the runner-up prize of P3,000 while arbiter Alfred Moulic (6.5) and Kurt Placencia (6.0) claimed P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.

Rounding up the top 10 were event sponsor Jong Guevarra Jr. (5.5), Knarf Lawrence Batislaong (4.5), Michael Elloso (3.0), Irish Yngayo (2.5), Florence Faith Guevarra (2.5) and Baltazar Rafale (0.5).

The tournament was backed by Jardin Del Roca, Justice for Seafarers, Inc., Trumph Motorcycle Corporation, Gina Villaruz and Fred De Veyra.
