NATIONAL master (NM) Jonathan Tan topped the Jardin del Roca Blitz Tournament held at the Jardin del Roca Mountain Resort in Crossing Bayabas, Toril, Davao City.

Tan, seeded third, made five wins in the six-round Swiss System format tournament organized by resort owner lawyer Jong Guevarra.

Top seed Fide master Austin Jacob Literatus of Toril edged fellow 4.5-scorer National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto via superior tiebreaks to claim the runner-up honors. The latter settled for third.

Trailing behind were four-pointers Napoleon Recososa, John Ray Batucan, Alexander Jover and Anthony Mosqueda.

Tan only lost to Infiesto in the fifth round as he swept all her matches against Recososa, international master (IM) John Marvin Miciano, Literatus, Jose Henry Fajardo and Nofre Reyes.

Literatus, a former National University chess scholar, won four games, drew one and lost one.

Dabawenyo Miciano, a Far Eastern University mainstay, finished eighth with 3.5 points in the tournament that drew a total of 22 players. (MLSA)
