THE Davao City futsal team salvaged a silver medal in the Batang Pinoy 2018 National Championships futsal competition Wednesday at St. Louis University in Baguio City.

Davao City and Mandaue City each toted four wins and one draw but the latter had a better record with higher goal difference of three to clinch the gold.

The Dabawenyas, beat Labrador, Pangasinan, 4-0, then drew with Mandaue City, 3-3, in their last two games in the tournament.

Davao City also eked out wins over Benguet City (10-0), Pasig City (5-1), Baguio City (3-1).

Head coach Rachelle "Ching" Delos Reyes said winning a medal amidst a calamity is something to be grateful for.

"Good start ni para sa atoang futsal girls. As a DRFA (Davao-South Regional Football Association) coach, naa jud dako chance atoang girls (Our girls have strong potentials). We plan to have more futsal games since we have standard size arena for futsal," Delos Reyes said.

Despite the short preparation, Delos Reyes lauded the players as they dominated most of the games except that against Mandaue City, which she said was a very tough team to beat.

She added in the vernacular, "I am happy with the performance of the girls being their first time to play as one team. They underwent major adjustments during training since they come from schools," she added.

Since the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Davao City backed out, Delos Reyes said the parents of each athlete made the trip possible.

The team was bannered by Juliana Del Mundo, Blaine Barredo, Jasmine Agustin, Samantha Salise, Janeica Fernandez, Isabella Taojo, Dave Shanna Gigawin, Lacy Uy, Akia Cayabyab and Alexandra Javellana with assistant coach Analou Ingles.
