CEBU City-based University of Visayas Green Lancers survives past Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victoria of Bacolod City, 72-68, to emerge champion in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League 2018 Visayas-Mindanao finals at the Arcadia Lifestyle and Fitness Center in Davao City Wednesday evening, December 5.

UV import Bassieuru Sackor led in scoring with 18 points while his teammates Gileant Delator and Michael Maestre added 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Sackor, Delator and Maestre took control of the game after Rey Suerte was relegated to the bench being in foul trouble. The latter sank eight markers before he was rested when the opposing squad was leading by three points in the fourth quarter.

Few minutes later, UV rallied with an 8-0 run to cut CSAV's lead to four, 60-64.

A see-saw battle then ensued between the two teams that succumbed to crucial errors but the more resilient Cebuanos prevailed down the stretch to advance to the next round of competition against Naga City Academy.

UV coach Gary Cortes said the team still has a lot of things to improve and change in the system when they clash against the Naga team.

“Lig-on sila nga kaatbang. Duha ang ilang import samtang kami isa lang (They are a strong team to reckon with. They also have two imports while we only have one),” Cortes added. (Seth Delos Reyes/SDD-CMO)
