FORMER University of Mindanao bemedalled runner Sonny Wagdos of the Philippine Air Force emerged champion in the Hunat Dabaw 6: Glow Run that ended Sunday evening, September 9, at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.

Wagdos ruled the men's 10-kilometer division after checking in at 35 minutes and 50 seconds while Dante Baay (36:20) and Arlan Arbois (37:00) finished second and third, respectively.

Wagdos said he did not plan on joining the race as he only wanted to spend time with his family during his vacation.

"Serve as tune up lang to kay nakabakasyon lang man gud ko then na timing lang jud naay race (This serves as a tune-up event)," the Airman 2nd Class (A2C) said.

Running again in Davao City, according to him, is special.

"Lami kaayo sa feeling kay life is here in Davao City gyud, Happy kaayo kay na miss nako ug taman ang pag dagan sa mga kalsada sa Davao (It's a great feeling to race here once again since I miss running on the roads of the city)," the Agusan del Sur native said.

Vivian Avergonzado, meanwhile, crowned herself women's 10K champion after besting Daymie Rose Jaro and Carah Marie Cortez.

Elmer Bartolo, for his part, topped the men's 5K category over George Andrade and Jimbo Lugay while Andrea Annabela Duqia stole the limelight in the women's 5K class over Diana Memoracion and Sharmain Yonson.

Fritz Clarence Lataco captured the male 3K title while Angelica Villanueva annexed the female 3K crown.

Esdevco president and chief executive officer (CEO) Glenn Y. Escandor, owner of The Royal Mandaya Hotel, also ran with the rest of the 3,200 entries.

This year's turnout of participants makes this year's Hunat Dabaw the biggest edition so far in the annual event that aimed to benefit the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

TRMH MIS manager and marketing head Megzyl Jole Jole, on the other hand, said, “Everything went well. God is with us the whole duration of the event and I am so glad that the Dabawenyos appreciated and supported the Hunat Dabaw 6.”

She also thanked the Task Force Davao, Central 911, Davao City Police Office, Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office, Swat, Public Safety and Security Command Center, and the Bureau of Fire Protection for providing security to participants.
