BORACAY ISLAND -- A 45-year-old Chinese national died, three others were brought to a hospital, and 17 more were rescued after the boat they were riding capsized Tuesday noon, January 21.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Dominador Salvino, deputy commander of the Philippine Coast Guard-Aklan, said the incident happened few meters away from the beach of Boracay.

Salvino said the victims were on an island hopping tour when their boat was battered by strong waves, causing it to capsize.

The three injured Chinese nationals were brought to Aklan Provincial Hospital for treatment. The other victims, including the boat crew, were allowed to go home.

The Philippine Coast Guard is currently investigating the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
