KALIBO, Aklan -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Western Visayas urged political candidates and parties to register their respective websites, including social media sites and blogs immediately.

In a memorandum dated February 12, 2019 but distributed to local media Monday afternoon, February 18, Comelec-Western Visayas Director Dennis Ausan said the memorandum was issued in response to similar memorandum issued by the Comelec central office.

A copy of the memorandum was distributed during the demonstration roadshow on the use of vote counting machines (VCM) in Kalibo.

The roadshow was held at the third floor of the Municipal Building of the Kalibo Local Government.

"The registration of web pages should be addressed to the central office," Ausan said in a two-page memorandum.

Lawyer Rommel Benliro, Kalibo election officer, said the roadshow is meant for voters to familiarize themselves with the use of VCM.

The activity is part of the preparation of the Comelec for the May 2019 midterm national and local elections, he added.

After Kalibo, a simultaneous roadshow will also be held in 16 other towns of Aklan, including Boracay Island. (SunStar Philippines)

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
