KALIBO, Aklan -- The Ati-atihan festival in Kalibo, Aklan turned out to be peaceful amid the restrictions brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Terence Toriano, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) chief of Kalibo, said the revelry highlighted a motor caravan carrying the image of Señor Santo Niño on Sunday night.

"We noted that more than 150 vehicles joined the caravan which lasted for about four hours as it also went to adjacent towns such as Banga and New Washington. We consider it a historic feat being possibly the longest one time caravan held in the province of Aklan," Toriano said.

Aside from the caravan, other activities were the Miss Kalibo Ati-Atihan, Pilgrim Mass, among others.

A fireworks display held at the Kalibo Pastrana Park culminated the event.

Toriano urged the revelers not to be complacent about their health and advised them to immediately seek medical attention if they are not feeling well due to Covid-19.

"During the caravan I listed four areas especially in Kalibo where we observed mass gatherings. I will immediately advise for a stiffer protocol in communities if we note an increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the lists I have made," he said.

The Kalibo Ati-atihan is celebrated every third week of January. (SSPhilippines)
