Leo Solinap

IN HONOR of the long-standing diplomatic connections between the two nations, Iloilo City has proclaimed May 22, 2023, as Philippines-Australia Friendship Day by Executive Order No. 46 Series of 2023.

The Presidential Proclamation No 1282, Series of 2016, which designated May 22 as Philippines-Australia Friendship Day each year, was referenced in the executive order.

Australian and the Philippine governments have continued to collaborate in a variety of sectors, including defense and security, development and education, trade and investment, and people-to-people links.

Australia has assisted Iloilo City through sponsoring activities aimed at strengthening the capacities of educators and school administrators, establishing schools, fostering sustainable lifestyles, and doing agricultural research.

The Iloilo City Government recognizes the long-standing friendship between the two countries, from its extensive historical ties with Australia through trade and people-to-people connections to the growing number of Filipinos from Western Visayas who have received an education in Australia and are now active members of the thriving Australia Global Alumni community.

The Presidential Order also emphasized the close relations between Australia and the Western Visayas, which have increased chances for growth and advancement for both Australians and Filipinos.

This Executive Order is effective immediately. The City of Iloilo looks forward to commemorating the Philippines-Australia Friendship Day and boosting bilateral diplomatic ties.
