ALL 180 barangays in Iloilo City will conduct a massive cleanup drive at 6 a.m. of July 20.

The city-wide cleanup will be supported by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) and General Services Office (GSO).

Mayor Jerry Treñas and City Council Committee on Health Chairman Councilor Alan Zaldivar will also lead the launching of the fight against dengue dubbed “Ugsaran Tinluan para Balatian Malikawan” (Clean surroundings to avoid sickness) in Barangay Calumpang in Molo district.

At 7 a.m., fire trucks sirens and church bells will sound to signal the start of cleanup activities.

Consistent cleanup to get rid of breeding places of dengue-carrying mosquitoes has been considered the best defense against the deadly disease.

Zaldivar said a regular Oplan Linis or cleanup every Saturday should be implemented in all villages.

As of July 10, 619 dengue cases with six deaths were recorded in the metropolis.

The City Council already passed an ordinance providing the creation of barangay dengue task force.

Zaldivar said they will conduct an inventory of villages for compliance to the anti-dengue preventive programs. (PR)

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
