THE provincewide convergence cleanup drive of the Provincial Government dubbed “Limpyo Iloilo” will officially kick off Friday, February 21.

It will start with a caravan at 2 p.m. from the Iloilo Provincial Capitol to Santa Barbara National Comprehensive High School where a short program will follow at 3 p.m. The simultaneous clean-up activity will be at 4 p.m.

Spearheaded by the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO), the massive clean-up drive will be participated by 43 towns, national government agencies, the academe, and the business sector.

Other partners include non-government organizations, religious sector, people’s organizations, youth organizations, cooperatives, and environmental warriors.

Limpyo Iloilo aims to achieve a clean Iloilo for health, tourism and progress and promote the culture and character of cleanliness and spirit of volunteerism among Ilonggos.

It will be done every third Saturday of the month.

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. said he wants Iloilo to achieve the “clean province” identity.

“Let us make cleaning a daily habit,” he said.

The activity will also involve solid waste management, as it is seen to reduce littering, throwing and illegal dumping of wastes along plazas, waterways and any public places.

Employees of the Iloilo Provincial Government are also joining the kick off activity. (PR)
