SOME newborn babies have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital (DRSTMH), according to Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores.

Miraflores revealed this in a meeting with the Provincial Agriculture Fisheries Council held Friday noon, January 21, 2022, at the Provincial Capitol.

"We are worried about their increasing numbers. The babies got infected because their mothers failed to be vaccinated against Covid-19," said Mirafloreis.

He did not reveal the number of infected infants.

"We continue to encourage our residents to be vaccinated," he added.

According to the report of the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of the Provincial Health Office, the province currently has 916 active cases. Of the said number, 93 were admitted.

As of January 10, 2022, the province registered 82 percent of the province's target population.

Reports coming from the 17 municipal health offices revealed that 217,458 adults have already been fully vaccinated and 42,528 pedia population.

The PHO also vaccinated 30,261 adults and some 6,283 pedia.

Several institutions in the province have mandated the "no vaccine, no entry"policy. Among them were the Aklan Electric Cooperative, the Metro Kalibo Water District, the Aklan Provincial Capitol, Ibajay Local Government and the barangay hall of Barangay Tigayon, Kalibo.
