P100-M budget for slaughterhouse rehab to be included in next hearing

SENATOR Cynthia Villar has promised that the P100-million budget allocation for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the slaughterhouse in Iloilo City will be included in the next budget hearing, said Mayor Jose Espinosa III.

Espinosa mentioned on Monday, September 17, during the Iloilo City Hall’s flag ceremony that he will request for a budget from Villar's office for the said rehabilitation.

Espinosa then said Wednesday, September 19, that he received a positive response from Villar regarding the matter.

He said Villar told him that the budget will come from the meat inspection administration through General Appropriations Act.

Meanwhile, the Iloilo City Council passed a resolution requesting Espinosa to allot funds for the rehabilitation of the city’s public markets and abattoir to treat its "sorry state."

The resolution was penned by Councilor Armand Parcon, who said the public markets and abattoir have been abandoned and deteriorated due to the poor quality of facilities and lack of supervision of its management. (SunStar Philippines)
