THE Iloilo City Government through the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) will start the course of repair of defective traffic lights in the metropolis by next month.

“The challenges of repairing the traffic lights are budget and the process of procurement. We already have a budget amounting to P1.5 million, and we will process all the needed documents once the banning period relative to the national and local elections is over,” PSTMO head Jeck Conlu said.

He stressed the repair to be made only involves the control box which runs the program of traffic lights.

Some traffic signals have dysfunctional lights and need to be replaced with new ones.

The areas where traffic lights will be repaired are in the area of Ledesma-Mabini Street City Proper, corner Delgado and Infante Street (near Doctors’ Hospital), and Huervana Street (near La Paz market), among others.

Conlu said there are other functional traffic lamps in the metropolis but were intentionally turned- off because of road construction, such as those near Quirino Bridge. (PR)
