PNP chief: COC filing in country generally peaceful

Jun N. Aguirre

THE week-long filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) in the country has been generally peaceful, said Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Guillermo Eleazar.

Eleazar was at the Aklan Provincial Police Office in Camp Pastor Martelino in New Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan Friday afternoon, October 8, 2021. Prior to his visit, Eleazar also visited the provincial police headquarters of Iloilo, Capiz and Antique.

"The reports I received from our ground commanders in the countryside show that the filing of COCs is generally peaceful. We in the PNP are thankful to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for their support," said Eleazar.

The visit of Eleazar is part of his duty as PNP chief. He is set to retire from the service in November 2021.

"Previous PNP chief has been accustomed to visiting regional police headquarters. I find that local police officers are inspired whenever the highest PNP command visits them. This is the reason why I also decided to visit provincial police headquarters whenever I had time," he said.

He also visited the Kalibo Municipal Police Station. (SunStar Philippines)
