Trashcans for esplanade, diversion road

THE Iloilo City Beautification Program is eyeing to put trashcans in Esplanade and along Diversion Road in Mandurriao district to minimize proliferation of garbage being thrown deliberately by the public.

City Agriculturist Romulo Pangantihon who heads the program said he will talk with City Mayor Jose Espinosa III regarding the suggestion following observation that trash are scattered in areas without garbage bins.

Putting garbage containers in Sunburst Park in City Proper has been effective in maintaining cleanliness of surroundings.

“One of the problems every morning is that there are plastics and barbecue sticks scattered on the ground. There was a time that one of our personnel was even pierced by barbecue stick,” Pangantihon said.

Eating, drinking and smoking are prohibited in Esplanade.

“One reason why there are no trash bins at Esplanade and Diversion Road is because these are designated as environmental discipline zones to remind the public not to litter and keep off the plants,” he added.

Some 148 employees are maintaining the cleanliness of major thoroughfares in the metropolis. (PR)
