FIVE cadets of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) have been placed in isolation pending an investigation into their alleged involvement in the maltreatment of a neophyte cadet.

PNP spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Byron Allatog said Cadet 4th Class John Desidero initially named three of his upperclassmen as those who maltreated him. He later identified two more.

"The affidavit complaint of subject cadet was already received by our investigator in the hospital and from the initial respondents of three cadets, two others are identified or a total of five now," said Allatog.

"Said identified cadets will be directed to explain within 24 hours before a formal administrative charge (will) be filed against them," he added.

He said Desiderio will also be assisted by the Silang Municipal Police Station for the filing of charges of violation of the anti-hazing law against the five cadets.

Desidero was rushed to the PNP General Hospital on the morning of October 29 due to stomach pains.

He was later transferred to the East Avenue Medical Center.

Allatog said Desiderio has been discharged from the hospital.

In September, the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) was rocked by the death of Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio due to injuries sustained from hazing. (SunStar Philippines)
