5 killed as family feud leads to gunfight

FIVE people were killed on Tuesday, August 6, in a gunfight prompted by a family feud in Sumisip, Basilan, a military official said.

Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) spokesperson Major Marvin Encinas said the gunfight erupted during a meeting at the Barangay Central hall of Sumisip.

The meeting, which was aimed at reaching at a settlement to end the feud, was attended by the group of Barangay Central chairman Marjim Barillo, family of Hadji Talil from Barangay Libug, and Guiong chairman Arsid Isik.

Encinas said a misunderstanding during the meeting led to a shootout.

Those killed were identified as Kinning Emo, Nulphy Norim, Hasil Baakal, Hassamn Barillo Muslimin, and Arsid Isik.

Another person identified as Ayog Baakal was wounded.
