ON THE heels of the detection of a new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) case in the province, the Prelature of Batanes on Friday, June 11, 2021, announced the indefinite suspension of all in-person masses.

"Effective today, June 11, I am hereby suspending the conduct of public masses in Batanes until further notice," Batanes Bishop Danny Ulep announced.

He said the decision was made after the province confirmed its 11th Covid-19 case on Thursday, June 10.

"(This is) due to the confirmed case of Covid-19 infection in Basco," said Ulep.

In the meantime, the prelate urged the faithful to put premium on avoiding further transmission of the virus.

"Let us remain vigilant and safety-conscious by strictly observing all health and safety protocols," said Ulep.

On Thursday, a 54-year-old female resident of Basco tested positive for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

This prompted the provincial government of Batanes to implement stricter health measures in the province.
