Business tycoon Roberto Ongpin dies at 86

ROBERTO Ongpin, one of the wealthiest businessmen in the Philippines, died on Saturday evening, February 4, 2023, at the age of 86.

In a statement, Apa Ongpin, nephew of the business tycoon, said Ongpin died in his sleep while in Balesin, a private island off Polilio, Quezon, which he owns.

“He is survived by his wife, Monica Arellano, his children, Stephen, Anna, Michelle and Julian, and four grandchildren, two of whom he got to play with before he went to sleep last night,” Apa said.

His remains will be brought to Manila, he added.

In 2022, Ongpin ranked as the 23rd richest Filipino with a net worth of $830 million or P44.5 billion.

He is also the chairman of Alphaland Corporation. (SunStar Philippines)
