WITH two tropical cyclones expected to enter the country's territory in the coming days, Caceres Archbishop Rolando Tirona urged the public to pray and asked for churches to be ready for evacuees.

In his pastoral letter, Tirona asked the faithful to offer their prayers for the protection of families in areas to be hit by Typhoon "Rolly" and Tropical Storm "Siony."

"I enjoin you dear parish priests and religious communities to have a prayer vigil or offer a votive Mass to spare our people and Mother Nature from further sufferings and pain the two typhoons may bring," said Tirona.

"Let us raise our pleas to our Ina or Peñafrancia to protect our people and Mother Nature from these two typhoons," he added.

Aside from prayers, the prelate said it is also imperative for parishes to be prepared to provide the necessary assistance to the people whenever necessary.

"Always be ready to open our churches/chapels/schools/convents for evacuees and provide assistance and strength to them," he said.

"It is good to work jointly with our Social Action Center and also coordinate with the LGU for their assistance for the evacuees," added Tirona.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Typhoon Rolly is likely make a landfall on Sunday evening (November 1) or Monday early morning (November 2).

Tropical Storm Siony, on the other hand, is projected by state meteorologists to likely enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday or Monday.

The Philippines is still reeling from the effect of Typhoon Quinta after it caused massive flooding and destruction to agriculture and infrastructure. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
