AN OFFICIAL of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Saturday, March 6, called on the youth to register for the May 2022 national and local elections.

“We invite, encourage and urge our young people to register for the upcoming elections because that is our contribution and obligation to our society and community by helping choose our leaders," Bishop Rex Andrew Alarcon, CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) chairman, said in a radio interview.

He said each vote from the youth is vital in determining the course of the country.

"Elections are times when we participate directly in governance. That is how we can make a difference even by a single vote," said the prelate.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier reported 2.4 million applications for voter registration, which are still below the four million target.

The registration period will end on September 30, 2021.

Comelec is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. nationwide. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
