TWO police officers were wounded in an armed encounter with men who refused to undergo inspection during an Oplan Sita operation in Pasay City.

Southern Police District (SPD) spokesperson Superintendent Jenny Tecson said Police Officer (PO) 3 Christina Villanueva sustained gunshot wound in the shoulder and knee, while PO1 Arman Rocha Canezares was shot in the hip by Edgardo Samson.

Tecson said the cops approached Samson and his son Mark Vincent Ocampo for brandishing a firearm while conducting Oplan Sita in F. De Guzman St, Malibay, Pasay.

The police directed Samson to show and surrender the firearm, but Samson instead drew his gun and shot the policemen.

Ocampo, on the other hand, tried to grab Villanueva’s firearm but failed as he was also hit in the leg.

Samson was also hit in the gunfight but managed to escape, while Ocampo was arrested.

In a follow-up operation, police were able to locate Samson, who entered a residential house in Cornejo Street in Malibay.

Tecson said Samson engaged the operating policemen in a gunfight, which resulted in his death.

Recovered from the crime scene were a fragmentation grenade and seven sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu).

Villanueva and Canasares were brought to San Juan De Dios and in stable condition, while Ocampo was initially brought to Pasay General Hospital for treatment. (SunStar Philippines)
