Covid-19 cases decline to lowest in 3 weeks as tests decrease

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, reported 13,846 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the lowest in almost three weeks, as testing output also dropped.

The DOH case bulletin on Tuesday also reported 91 additional deaths from Covid-19 and 39,980 recoveries.

The new infections, which were the lowest since the 12,751 cases recorded on September 8, brought the Covid-19 case count to 2,522,965. There were 58 duplicates that were removed from the tally.

Testing output was low at 47,430 on September 26, a Sunday, with seven laboratories unable to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System. The daily positivity rate went up to 24.1 percent.

The additional deaths, which included 37 cases reclassified from recoveries, raised the Covid-19 death toll to 37,686. The case fatality rate inched up to 1.51 percent.

With the new recoveries, a total of 2,353,140 have now recovered from infection.

As recoveries were thrice the new cases, the number of active Covid-19 cases fell to 132,139, of which 0.9 percent were critical, 2.1 percent were severe, 3.99 percent were moderate, 76.6 percent were mild and 16.4 percent were asymptomatic. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
