THE Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, September 27, 2021, reported more than 18,000 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), pushing the total case count in the Philippines past 2.5 million.

In its case bulletin issued at around 9 p.m. Monday, or five hours later than the 4 p.m. schedule, the DOH listed 18,449 new cases and 21,811 new recoveries.

For the first time in four days, Covid-19 deaths were reported but the DOH did not say whether the technical issues in the CovidKaya surveillance system that prevented extraction of data on deaths have been resolved.

There were 93 Covid-19 deaths based on the case bulletin Monday. These raised the Covid-19 death toll to 37,494. The case fatality rate remained at 1.5 percent.

The DOH said backlog deaths will be reported in separate advisories.

The new cases brought the cumulative Covid-19 cases to 2,509,177.

Of the 18,449 new infections, 17,953 occurred in the recent 14 days from September 14 to 27.

The highest cases during this period were from the National Capital Region (3,060), Calabarzon (2,465) and Central Luzon (1,922).

The daily positivity rate increased to 23.5 percent as testing output was relatively lower at 68,678 on September 25.

There remained 158,169 active Covid-19 cases, of which 0.8 percent were critical, 1.7 percent were severe, 3.42 percent were moderate, 78.7 percent were mild and 15.3 percent were asymptomatic.

A total of 2,313,412 have now recovered from infection, including the new recoveries. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / HDT / SunStar Philippines)
