Covid-19 cases in Philippines surpass 900,000

THE cumulative coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) case count in the Philippines went past 900,000 as the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 11,429 additional infections on Thursday, April 15, 2021.

In its case bulletin Thursday, DOH reported a total of 904,285 cases, including 183,527 active cases in hospitals and isolation facilities.

There were 148 additional mortalities, raising the death toll to 15,594. Mortalities from Covid-19 have exceeded 100 for seven days in a row, with the highest recorded on April 9 at 401.

The case fatality rate declined to 1.72 percent Thursday from 1.73 percent in the previous six days.

The DOH also reported 856 new recoveries, bringing the total to 705,164.

The testing output improved to 43,706, of which 19 percent were found positive for Sars-CoV-2.

Meanwhile, 1,093,651 individuals have received their first dose of a vaccine against Covid-19 as of April 13.

Of this number, 162,065 have received their second dose.

A total of 1,255,716 doses have been administered in the country. These comprised nearly 45 percent of the 2,801,020 vaccine doses distributed to 2,988 vaccination sites across the country.
