THREE more policemen had died from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the death toll in the Philippine National Police (PNP) to 43.

The latest mortalities were a 48-year-old male officer assigned at the Manila Police District (MPD), a 64-year-old non-uniformed personnel assigned in Camp Crame and a 53-year-old officer assigned in Central Luzon.

They succumbed to Covid-19 on April, 8, 9 and 10, respectively.

As of April 10, there were a total of 2,400 active Covid-19 cases in the PNP out of the 17,194 cumulative cases.

PNP Chief Debold Sinas assured that the families of the deceased officers would get assistance and benefits.

As of April 9, a total of 4,420 policemen have been fully vaccinated as they received their two doses of CoronaVac while 1,634 had their first AstraZeneca vaccine dose.

Meanwhile, a policeman assigned at the MPD died seven days after he was vaccinated against Covid-19.

In a report, the MPD identified the cop as Staff Sergeant Senen delos Santos Evangelista. He received his first dose of CoronaVac on March 31.

Evangelista was rushed by his family to the Skyline Medical Center in San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan on April 7, after he complained of fever, cough and colds.

He died on April 8. The PNP did not say whether he was tested for the virus.

It takes several weeks before a vaccine takes effect and protects a person from a disease. (SunStar Philippines)
