Covid deaths in Philippines hit 40,000

NEW cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and the daily positivity rate declined further as tests remained low, but deaths breached 40,000 on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

In its case bulletin Wednesday, the Department of Health (DOH) listed 7,181 new cases, 173 additional deaths and 6,889 new recoveries.

The new cases brought the cumulative case count to 2,690,455.

The daily positivity rate decreased to 14.2 percent while testing output remained low at 40,323 on October 11.

The additional deaths, which included 101 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries, raised the death toll to 40,069. The case fatality rate remained at 1.49 percent.

With the additional recoveries, a total of 2,567,975 have now recovered from infection.

There remained 82,411 active cases, of which 1.6 percent were critical, 3.7 percent were severe, 7.25 percent were moderate, 75.3 percent were mild and 12.1 percent were asymptomatic. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
