THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Friday, August 12, 2022, reported the shut down of an illegal recruitment agency based in Manila after it was found offering non-existent overseas jobs in the Middle East.

In a statement, DMW Secretary Susan Ople said they padlocked last July 29 the office of Kharem International in Ermita, Manila.

“We are serving notice to all illegal recruiters. There will be no let-up in our campaign against illegal recruiters,” Ople said.

She noted how the firm was found to be an unregistered and unlicensed company.

Add to this, she said, is its effort to offer bogus jobs as domestic workers, beauticians, and on-call cleaners in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other Middle East countries.

Ople said their action comes after they received complaints about Kharem’s bogus job offers in exchange for placement and other “advance” fees.

She said they continue to call on other victims of Kharem’s to contact the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration for free legal assistance in the filing of cases. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
