Duterte eyes ban on plastic

Sunnexdesk

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has bared his plan to prohibit the use of plastic products all throughout the country, Malacañang said on Thursday, November 7.

The President raised the possibility during the 43rd Cabinet meeting at Malacañan Palace on Wednesday night, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

Duterte, however, acknowledged that he needs to get the support of lawmakers.

”The President floated the idea to ban the use of plastics, which according to him would require legislative action,” he said.

Duterte made the call after Vernice Victorio, president and chief executive officer of state corporation Natural Resources Development Corporation, presented to Duterte and the Cabinet officials during the Cabinet meeting the priority programs for environment and climate change resiliency.

Several bills that seek the ban on the use plastic products in the country have been filed at Congress. (NASE/SunStar Philippines)
