VICE President Sara Duterte will attend the state funeral of former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe next week.

Duterte said on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, that she will go to Japan next week.

The announcement came after Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuhiko Koshikawa visited her in her office.

“Inihayag ni Ambassador Koshikawa ang kanyang paunang pasasalamat sa aking nakatakdang pagbisita sa Japan sa susunod na linggo para sa state funeral ni yumaong Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe,” Duterte said in a statement.

Duterte said she will bring two letters of condolences, one from her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, and the other from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Abe, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, was assassinated during a campaign event on July 8.

The state funeral will be held at Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan on September 27. (SunStar Philippines)
