Ex-cop tagged in robbery-slay of messenger killed in gunfight

A FORMER policeman, who was tagged in the robbery-slay of a messenger in Valenzuela City in October 2020, was killed in an encounter with the police in Batangas on Wednesday evening, March 18, 2021.

The suspect, Anthony Glua Cubos, was killed after allegedly engaging in a gunfight with policemen who tried to serve an arrest warrant for the crime of robbery with homicide.

Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar, Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge, said Cubos went on absent without official leave in 2019.

He had been linked to several kidnapping, robbery extortion, gun-for-hire and illegal drug activities. He was also included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s Level 3 watchlist and PNP’s national drug watchlist of pushers and protectors of illegal drugs.

Cubos was identified as the brains behind the robbery-slay of Nino Luegi Hernando, 39,in Valenzuela City. Hernando was robbed after he withdrew a total of P442,714.00 for company payroll in October 2020.

Three suspects were arrested by the police namely Jo-Ann Cabatuan, Edgar Batchar and Michael Castro. With the death of Cubos, two remain at large, namely, Rico Reyes, 21, and Narciso Santiago, 37. (SunStar Philippines)
