Filipinos abroad urged: Pray before voting

AS FILIPINOS abroad set to troop to voting posts Saturday, April 13, to cast their votes, an official of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) urged them to seek guidance first by praying.

In a brief statement for the start of the overseas voting for the May 2019 polls, CBCP-Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People Chairman Bishop Ruperto Santos said it is important for Filipino voters to be properly guided in casting their votes.

“Our dear OFWs (overseas Filipino workers), as you start overseas voting, pray first and think about who will really help you and truly work for the good of country,” said Santos.

This, he said, means they must choose those who will not steal their remittances nor pocket them.

The prelate said they must also opt for those who have goodness, good manners, and are good examples to the public.

Santos also urged them to vote for those who fear God, honor God, and fulfill His commandments.

The call was issued on the eve of the start of the month-long overseas voting period on Saturday.

Data show that there are a total of 1,822,173 overseas voters. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
