IT'S not even Christmas yet, but the number of firecracker-related injuries has risen to four as of 5:59 a.m. of December 23.

Based on the Fireworks-Related Injury Surveillance 2019 Report No. 2, two more people got injured as reported in sentinel hospitals between December 22 (6 am) to December 23 (5:59 am).

"These bring the total to four from 6 am of December 21 to 5:59 am of December 23," said the DOH report.

"This is four (50 percent) cases lower compared to 2018," it added.

The two new cases of fireworks-related injuries came from the Calabarzon and Western Visayas, both of whom are aged 10 years old.

The report said injuries were caused by boga and baby rocket, respectively, as they were both found to be active users.

One had his eye injured while the other one sustained blast/burn injuries without amputation.

There were also no fireworks ingestion and stray bullet case reported.

The DOH also said no deaths have been reported. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
