AUTHORITIES arrested on Tuesday morning, May 21, the primary suspect in the killing of the 14-year-old girl whose body was found in the septic tank of Cogon Cruz Elementary School in Danao City, a police official said on Wednesday.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Amador Corpuz said Jessie Mediquillo, 34, was arrested by operatives of CIDG in Cebu in coordination with Danao and Cebu City Police Station around 7:30 a.m. in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Corpuz received a report about Mediquillo's arrest from Central Visayas Police Regional Director Lito Patay.

Mediquillo, a security guard, has a standing arrest warrant issued on May 14 by judge Ma. Josefa Pinza-Ramos of the Danao City Regional Trial Court for the crime of murder.

The victim, 14-year-old Thesa Marie Ygay was reported missing on April 6. Her body was found by a janitor inside the septic tank of her school two days later, April 8.

A kitchen knife, steel tube and a piece of wood, a security guard uniform with Mediquillo’s name tag, all with blood stains were found inside the schools’ guard house.

The recovery of Mediquillo’s bloodied uniform made him the primary suspect of the killing.

“Earlier reports revealed that Mediquillo is the main suspect in the killing of Thesa Marie Ygay whom he had a close relationship with. Mediquillo was taking care Ygay’s school expenses since 2012,” said Corpuz.

Mediquillo surrendered to barangay officials of Tuburan town on April 12. (SunStar Philippines)
