THE state weather bureau is monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) that is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Tuesday, November 19.

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, November 17, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was estimated to be 2,420 kilometers east of Visayas outside PAR.

Tropical Storm Ramon, meanwhile, continues to move slowly toward north northwest.

Pagasa said as of 10 a.m. Sunday, Ramon was located at 395 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora. It has maximum sustained winds of up to 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center and gusts of up to 80 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) Number 1 has been raised over Cagayan including Babuyan Island and Isabela, as well as the northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, and Dinalungan).

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may be experienced Sunday over the eastern portions of Cagayan and Isabela, said Pagasa.

On Monday, November 18, it added that light to moderate with occasional heavy rains may be experienced over mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, and Ilocos Norte, while light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may be experienced over the Babuyan Islands, Abra, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Northern Aurora, and Quirino.

Pagasa has warned residents living in flood-prone or landslide-prone areas to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates.

It said that sea travel is risky, especially for small sea crafts, over the seaboards of areas under TCWS, the seaboards of Northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon due to prevailing or forecast rough sea conditions. (EZN)
