THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has approved the provisional fare increase in public utility jeepneys (PUJ) nationwide.

Effective on Friday, July 1, the base fare for PUJs, which covers the first four kilometers, in all parts of the country will be P11.

“But no increase in the succeeding kilometers,” the LTFRB said in its order issued on Wednesday, June 29.

On June 8, the LTFRB initially approved the P1 provisional fare increase for PUJs in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon and Calabarzon.

This was in response to the petition filed by various transport groups in relation to the series of oil price hikes brought about by several factors, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine. (SunStar Philippines)
