Magnitude 5.7 quake hits Batangas

MANILA – A magnitude 5.7 earthquake hit Batangas late Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake, which occurred at about 11:08 p.m., was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.6 quake that jolted the municipality of Calatagan on July 24, Phivolcs added.

The epicenter of Friday's earthquake was recorded at 15 km. southwest of Calatagan. It had a depth of 113 km.

Intensity IV was felt in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.

Intensity III, on the other hand, was felt in Pasig City, Quezon City, and Obando, Bulacan.

There were no instrumental intensities recorded based on Phivolcs' earthquake bulletin.

Meanwhile, no damage or aftershock is expected from the magnitude 5.7 tremor.
