THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) clarified on Thursday, October 21, that minors, senior citizens and pregnant women can go out of their homes under certain conditions following the easing of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) protocols in the National Capital Region (NCR).

MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said minors (below 18 years old) and those under the vulnerable sector are only allowed to go outside to obtain essential goods and services, work in permitted industries and offices, and perform outdoor exercises.

He said children are still prohibited inside malls and other enclosed establishments, except when the purpose is essential, like going to a dentist or clinics. They, however, must be accompanied by an adult and must observe health protocols, such as wearing of face shield and face masks. Physical distancing must also be observed.

Abalos said eating in restaurants with enclosed spaces is also not allowed for minors.

“Ang rule of thumb is this, isipin n’yo ang anak n’yo ay walang bakuna, isipin n’yo ang anak n’yo ay very vulnerable. Dapat po talaga proteksyunan natin ang bata,” he said.

(The rule of thumb is this: remember that your children are unvaccinated and vulnerable. We should protect the children.)

Over the weekend, several people, including those with children, flocked to public and leisure areas in the metro. Some were caught violating health protocols.

Earlier, Philippine National Police Chief Guillermo Eleazar urged the public to be extra careful when visiting public places to prevent another spike in Covid-19 cases in the country. (SunStar Philippines)
