MMDA resumes implementation of regular number coding scheme

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will re-implement the regular number coding scheme in the National Capital Region (NCR) starting Monday, August 15, 2022.

Instead of implementing the number coding scheme only in the afternoon or from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the MMDA will impose it again in the morning, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. from Monday to Friday except holidays.

The resumption of the regular number coding scheme, according to the MMDA, was approved by the Metro Manila Council composed of the local government executives.

The MMDA suspended the number coding scheme amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

MMDA Acting Chairman Engineer Carlo Dimayuga said the expanded coding scheme was enforced due to the expected 13 percent increase in the number of vehicles in Metro Manila during the upcoming opening of in-person classes.

He said coordination with concerned government agencies such as the Department of Transportation is ongoing for the deployment of buses and additional traffic enforcers during the resumption of classes. (SunStar Philippines)
