ALMOST 100,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have returned to the Philippines this year amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

Data from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) showed that a total of 97,742 OFWs have returned to their families from January 1 to March 22, 2021.

Of the total, there were 40,339 Luzon-based OFWs who were brought home via the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange.

A total of 57,403 OFWs, on the other hand, were brought home to Visayas and Mindanao via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Since March 2020, there have already been 489,451 OFWs who have returned home amid the pandemic.

The repatriated OFWs were brought home after being cleared from Covid-19, as they underwent reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing.

Since their arrival in the country, they have also been provided by Owwa with food and accommodation assistance. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
