PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Lieutenant General Rozzano Briguez as the new commanding general of the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

Duterte approved Briguez's new appointment to the PAF effective December 5, according to a letter addressed to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

Briguez will replace Lieutenant General Galileo Gerard Kintanar, who is set to retire from the military service in January next year but opted for early retirement.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1986, Briguez served as head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines's (AFP) Western Command, a position he also took over from Kintanar in 2017.

A copy of the December 5 letter concerning Briguez's new post was released by Malacañang on Thursday, December 6.

Also on Thursday, Palace released the appointment paper of Lieutenant General Bersamin Madrigal, who was named the new AFP chief-of-staff.

Madrigal's designation as replacement of outgoing AFP chief-of-staff General Carlito Galvez Jr., who is set to retire on December 12, was announced by Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año on Wednesday, December 5. (SunStar Philippines)
