OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said on Thursday, January 27, that coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Baguio City “may have peaked already,” citing the drop of its reproduction number to 1.86.

“We need a few days to confirm the trend. In the meantime, let us be mindful of health protocols,” David said.

Baguio City’s reproduction number went down from 3.19 in January 21 to 1.86 on January 26.

Reproduction number refers to the number of individuals infected by one case.

On January 23, David said Baguio City’s one-week growth rate stood at 68 percent while its average daily attack rate (Adar) was at severe risk classification at 161.9.

Baguio City was among the highly urbanized cities that have recorded high new cases at 902 amid the increase of infections due to the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

Of the 230,410 active Covid-19 cases in the country as of January 26, 4,617 were in Baguio City.

Baguio City has a total Covid-19 caseload of 38,753 since 2020, with 741 deaths and 33,395 recoveries. (SunStar Philippines)
