Over 2,000 new infections, highest since early November

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, January 22, 2021, reported 2,178 new coronavirus infections, the highest since November 8, 2020.

These brought the total case count in the country to 509,887, of which 32,031 or 6.3 percent, were active cases.

The areas with the highest number of cases on Friday were Quezon City (148), Bulacan (88), Cebu City (80), Davao City (79), and Mountain Province (75).

There were 20 additional deaths from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), raising the death toll to 10,136. The case fatality rate was unchanged at 1.99 percent.

The DOH also reported 250 new recoveries, bringing the total to 467,720. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
