PAF helicopter crashes in Bohol; 1 dead

(UPDATED) One person was killed when a Philippine Air Force helicopter crashed in the waters of Getafe, Bohol on Tuesday morning, April 27, 2021, PAF spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Maynard Mariano confirmed.

He said the incident involving a defender aircraft happened around 9:30 a.m. in Getafe, Bohol. The MG 520 helicopter had come from the Mactan Airbase in Cebu.

“The aircraft is on maintenance flight and those are the areas na pinaggagawanan nila ng maintenance flight...(meaning) equipment check flight. It’s a periodic maintenance flight,” he said.

Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Cirilito Sobejana, in a statement, said the pilot was killed.

His co-pilot and two crew members survived and were undergoing treatment at a medical facility in Talibon, Bohol.

The military is set to conduct an investigation into the incident, Sobejana added. (SunStar Philippines)
