PH coronavirus cases breach 3.4M

THE Philippines on Sunday, January 23, 2022, recorded almost 30,000 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), pushing the total caseload to over 3.4 million.

Based on the Sunday case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) logged 29,828 new cases of Covid-19.

The fresh cases increased the nationwide caseload to 3,417,216.

The positivity rate stood at 41.8 percent from the 69,014 tested on January 21.

The new cases also raised the active Covid-19 cases in the country to 273,580.

Of the active cases, 260,399 were mild, 8,371 were asymptomatic, 3,006 were moderate, 1,490 were severe and 308 were critical.

With 67 new mortalities recorded Sunday, the death toll in the country stood at 53,472 or a death rate of 1.56 percent.

The health department also recorded 36,673 new recoveries, bringing the total to 3,090,164.

As for the country's healthcare utilization rate, 51 percent of intensive care unit beds, 52 percent of isolation beds, 53 percent of ward beds and 24 percent of ventilators were occupied.

All laboratories were operational on January 21, while two laboratories failed to submit to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

The DOH reminded the public to follow minimum health protocols and to get vaccinated to protect themselves and their loved ones from the threat of the coronavirus, especially its more transmissible variant, Omicron.
