NEARLY 6,000 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases were reported again by the Department of Health (DOH) Saturday, October 23, along with over 60 additional deaths.

In its 4 p.m. bulletin, the DOH said 5,807 fresh infections were recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s total caseload to 2,751,667.

The positivity rate of the country stood at 10.3 percent out of the 58,834 tests conducted last October 21.

Of the confirmed cases, 65 more deaths were reported, pushing the death toll to 41,585.

The case fatality rate was 1.51 percent.

The health department also reported 9,578 additional recoveries that brought the total number of survivors to 2,647,031. This means that 96.2 percent of the Covid-19 patients were able to recover.

Less the deaths and recoveries, the DOH said the country has 63,051 active Covid-19 cases, which account for 2.3 percent of the infections.

Majority or 77.7 percent of the active cases were considered mild, 8.8 percent were moderate, 6.5 percent were asymptomatic, 4.9 percent were severe, and 2.1 percent were critical.

On Friday, October 22, the DOH also reported 5,823 new cases. The daily tally in the past three days (October 19-21) was only below 5,000 due to some technical issues with the agency’s epidemiological surveillance system. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
