Philippines new Covid-19 cases stay above 30,000 mark

FOR the second straight day, over 30,000 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases were reported in the Philippines, the health department said Friday, January 21, 2022.

In its 4 p.m. Friday case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said 32,744 new Covid-19 cases were recorded, bringing the total cases in the country to 3,357,083.

The positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 44 percent from the 75,335 tested samples on January 19.

The DOH also reported 156 additional deaths, raising the total mortalities to 53,309.

The case fatality rate in the country stood at 1.59 percent.

The health department also reported 16,385 additional recoveries, bringing the total to 3,012,156 survivors, or a recovery rate of 89.7 percent.

The DOH said the country logged 291,618 active Covid-19 cases on Friday.

Majority of the active cases, with over 277,000, were mild cases, followed by more than 9,000 asymptomatic cases. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
